CFDWARP Project: CFD Code for Plasma & Reactive Flow
Image
CFDWARP is a 120,000+ line C code that is specifically tailored to simulate efficiently plasma and reactive flows occurring in aerodynamics, combustion, hypersonics, re-entry, and MHD. CFDWARP is a high-order compressible flow solver that uses novel flux discretization schemes suitable for Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Implicit Large Eddy Simulation (ILES). CFDWARP is superior to other codes in two ways:

AME323 Gasdynamics
Gasdynamics gives an introduction to compressible fluid flows with applications to wind tunnels, turbojet and ramjet inlets, rocket nozzles, and supersonic airfoils. The topics covered include isentropic flow in ducts with area change, unsteady and steady normal shock waves, oblique shock waves, Prandtl-Meyer fans, frictional flow in ducts.... Read more.
AME536B Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics B
The second of two graduate courses giving an overview of fluid mechanics, AME536B is mostly centered on viscous laminar flow. We will cover the derivation of the Navier-Stokes equations, stress-strain relationships, kinematics of a fluid particule, the vortex force, the viscous stress tensor, vortex stretching, boundary layers, developed flows in pipes, Stokes flow, self-similar solutions in jets and wakes, the... AE23815 Heat Transfer
This is a third year undergraduate course about heat transfer phenomena. The course covers radiation, conduction in solids (steady and unsteady), external convection, viscous heating, internal convection, natural convection, and phase change. Example problems include the cooling of journal bearings, electricity cables, and the design of fins, hot wire anemometers, and hypersonic aircraft structural cooling... Read more.
AE68714 Computational Aerodynamics
“Computational Aerodynamics” is a graduate course (also opened to senior undergrads) giving an overview of the most popular Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods for aerodynamics. We'll see how to recast the fluid equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates, how to measure numerical error using Richardson extrapolation, and how to craft some high resolution and high order flux discretization... Read more.
AE23837 Numerical Analysis
Numerical analysis is the branch of mathematics involved with the development of efficient methods for solving problems using a computer. In this second-year undergraduate course, we will cover various numerical methods including numerical integration, numerical differentiation, root finding of linear and non-linear systems of equations, and curve fitting. For each numerical method shown in class, the student will... Read more.
