Streets nearby Pusan National University
I am putting here some pictures I took in the neighborhood nearby the Pusan National University Campus. Located about 8 kms north of the center of the city (i.e. Seomyeon), PNU is a very lively neighborhood with hundreds of restaurants, stores, and bars catering for the students tastes and budgets. Similarly to other districts in Busan, the street level safety is second to none. Even late at night in poorly lit backalleys, the streets feel remarkably safe: middle aged ladies, teenage ladies, or even young children can be seen walking unescorted and showing no signs of worry. I hope this aspect of Korean cities remains the same in the future.

One of the two scramble crossings within the PNU neighborhood. Scramble crossings are somewhat popular in Korea. I have seen several others in Seoul and in Incheon as well. On the right, the Burger King. Sadly, the BK closed a few months ago. I generally don't value much the food served in hamburger chain restaurants — but the Whopper is one exception.

From the campus of Pusan National University (PNU). The four brown towers at the back of the picture make up the Daewoo Prugio apartment complex. Contrarily to the singles apartment which are notoriously small, the family apartments in Korea tend to be quite spacious. For instance, in the Daewoo Prugio towers, the smallest units have 90 square meters of living space, while the largest ones have 140 square meters.

Middle-aged lady shopping in a backalley nearby the Laputa cinema complex.

The pavement was gentrified recently on this street. It made a big difference — in a positive way. I wish the next improvement will be to remove the overhead electricity cables.

A young couple shopping and talking. There are a multitude of small streets with stores on each side such as this one — the area feels a bit like an outdoor mall.

Store selling all sorts of nuts.

Another shopping backalley with some students looking around. Sometimes, I wish the students would spend less time in these backalleys and more time on their courses.
