Chrome Remote Desktop HOWTO
First download the chrome remote desktop debian package. This can be done by launching the chrome remote desktop chrome app from the chrome web store. Chrome will put this file in the ~/Downloads directory. You can install it as follows:
sudo dpkg -i chrome-remote-desktop_current_amd64.deb
Then, add yourself to the chrome-remote-desktop group:
sudo usermod -a -G chrome-remote-desktop parent
Check that you are part of the chrome-remote-desktop group by typing:
groups
The file ~/.chrome-remote-desktop-session should contain:
startxfce4 :8
Note that should multiple users use chrome remote desktop, each user should change :8 for another screen such as :9, :10, :11 etc. The resolution can be set by adding the following to ~/.profile:
export CHROME_REMOTE_DESKTOP_DEFAULT_DESKTOP_SIZES=1024x768
and the following to ~/.cshrc:
setenv CHROME_REMOTE_DESKTOP_DEFAULT_DESKTOP_SIZES 1024x768
Restart chrome-remote-desktop:
sudo service chrome-remote-desktop restart
Then, go to https://remotedesktop.google.com and add your machine and a PIN to the list of your “Remote Devices”.
